2010-2017 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER LOWER CONTROL ARMS
Step 1: Jack up vehicle and support it with jack stands.


Step 2: Remove lug nuts using a 21 mm socket.


Step 3: Remove dust cover using screw driver and hammer.



Step 4: Remove cotter pin and axle nut lock.


Step 5: Lubricate axle nut. Press on the brake. Using the breaker bar and 34 mm socket loosen the nut and remove it. Once the axle nut is removed use a chisel and hammer to release the axle from the hub.





Step 6: Remove all ABS wire brackets using 10 mm socket.



Step 7: Remove brake line bracket bolt using 12 mm socket. Decompress caliber using flat head screw driver. Remove both caliber bolts using 17 mm socket. Support brake caliber using a heavy duty zip tie. Remove ABS wire from brake line bracket. Then remove rotor.










Step 8: Using needle nose pliers remove cotter pin from tie rod. Using 19 mm socket remove nut from tie rod. Keeping the nut on the tie rod hit the side of the knuckle to release the tie rod. DO NOT HIT TIE ROD WITH HAMMER. Then remove nut and tie rod.




Step 9: Using 10mm socket remove ABS sensor.



Step 10: Remove cotter pin. Using a 19 mm socket remove the upper ball joint nut. Using hammer hit the side of the steering knuckle to release the upper ball joint from the spindle. Using the prybar press down on the upper control arm and finish removing the upper ball joint nut.





Step 11:Remove cotter pin from lower ball joint. Using a 24 mm socket remove the lower ball joint nut. Strike the lower side of the spindle until it’s released from the lower ball joint. Using a 19 mm socket, unbolt the two bolts holding the spindle to the lower spindle mount. Remove spindle and remove lower spindle mount.







Step 12: Using a 19 mm socket and wrench remove the lower strut bolt from the lower control arm.


Step 13: Using 22 mm socket and wrench remove both lower control arm bolts.





Step14: Using a 14 mm ratchet wrench remove the three upper strut nuts. MAKE SURE NOT to remove the center bolt.



Step 15: Using a pipe wrench remove the bump stop from the frame.


Step 16: Install bushings and sleeves make sure to properly grease all mating and moving surfaces. Install lower control arm using the camber and caster bolts from the original control arms. Using a 22 mm socket and wrench torque the lower control arm bolts to spec.

















Step 17: Install the strut and hand tighten the upper strut nuts. Install the lower strut bolt and using a19mm socket torque to spec. Using a 14 mm socket torque the upper strut nuts to spec.





Step 18: Install lower bearing misalignment spacers with lower spindle mount. Using 22 mm socket and an allen wrench, torque the lower bearing misalignment spacers to spec. Install spindle using both 19 mm bolts torque to spec.








Step 19: Install misalignment spacers on upper bearing. Using a 21 mm wrench and a 22 mm socket torque upper bearing bolt to spec.



Step 20: Reinstall ABS wires brackets and ABS sensor back on steering knuckle


Step 21: Using vice grip and 17 mm socket reinstall sway bar link.



Step 22: Trim bump stop bolt. Then install Allen bolt with bump stop onto the spacer. Install bump stop onto the frame.







Step 23: Reinstall rotor. Install caliper torque hardware to spec using a 19mm socket. Using 12 mm socket reinstall brake line bracket bolt.







Step 24: Reinstall outer tie rod using 19 mm socket torque to spec. Reinstall cotter pin.






Step 25: Reinstall axle nut using 34 mm socket torque to spec. Reinstall axle nut lock and cotter pin. Reinstall dust cover.




Step 26: Reinstall wheel using 21 mm socket torque to spec.
